R and J continues..........
Born and raised on Wirral, J and R moved to North Wales three years ago and have a year's previous relevant experience as 'Householders' offering supported lodgings to vulnerable teenagers in transition from care to independent living, via an, Independent Supported Lodgings Scheme commissioned jointly by Flintshire & Denbighshire. Through this and J's previous child minding and classroom support work, they have already gained wide ranging experience of caring for other people's children and young people, pertinent to the fostering role.
The house is easily accessible by fast road and rail links into Wales and England. This is an environment conducive to helping a traumatized child or young person start to heal past hurts, with R & J's measured and empathic support. They are a strong team, have a calm approach and offer firm but fair boundaries.
During the period of assessment demonstrated that they understand the role of a foster carer, that they are good team players, will work well to deadlines and have proved reliable and steadfast, qualities that are conducive to sustaining a placement. Additionally they are very open to increasing their understanding of the care of traumatized children and have the back up of their grown up son's who are equally interested in fostering, would contribute positively and will provide excellent role models.
R is a skipper of a fishing vessel and takes people out fishing. He is also a qualified mechanic and seems to enjoy anything practical. Extended family members already have the experience of interacting with the supported lodging young people and tend to treat them as members of the extended family, very welcoming and accepting. R & J's attitude towards children and young people is very respectful and none judgmental. They are empathic and quickly form good working relationships with children they care for. They are keen to expand their knowledge base in becoming Trauma aware and have demonstrated their hunger for knowledge about how children are damaged through their life experiences. Ultimately they aim through training and supervision, to become completely trauma informed and in the interim, work in a therapeutic manner, conducive to healing past hurts.
