Congratulations to A & M for successfully becoming NEWFOCAS foster carers

4 October 2011 18:00

A & M live with their 2 daughters in a particularly beautiful and therapeutic setting in the foothills of Snowdonia. Their home, a large, detached property, is set in twenty acres of land, with the Snowdonia Steam train running along the lower boundary of their property. They own chickens, horses, dogs and a cat, and the surrounding fields hold a variety of animals. Their local friends are very supportive of their fostering role, and have a depth of comprehension about the task, which will assist A & M.  A is particularly interested in helping to settle and develop siblings who may be trauma damaged. A is the main carer and does not work. M supports her fully and his work is flexible to enable his to offer maximum support when needed.

Both have a natural empathy pertinent to fostering and communicating with troubled children. They display a patient, understanding manner, recognize how past trauma will impact a child's behaviour and the importance of working in a calm and therapeutic manner to help any child placed with them.  A is a qualified and experienced teacher, used to managing special needs and has worked in multi cultural London Schools for many years. She has also worked as a supply teacher in Wales. A loves the challenge of helping a child who has been developmentally delayed, and uses a variety of techniques to do this. The whole family, including the birth children, demonstrate a keenness to develop knowledge and new skills.  All are open to advice and learning and no-one holds strong opinions that will not respond to advice or reason.  Both A & M have a wide range of pertinent training.

NEWFOCAS welcome them to the team and hope that they enjoy fostering and the challenges it brings.

Congratulations to the whole family, from all at NEWFOCAS.

Testimonials

"They seem to have the ability to match children's needs to the placement, rather than the other way around, in my experience.  The child comes first".
