Open Evening for Prospective Foster Carers
THURSDAY 14TH APRIL 2016
Testimonial received from NEWFOCAS foster carers.
Our many years of experience and our knowledge-based Trauma Informed approaches allow us to work with some of the most damaged, challenging, and complex children who may not otherwise have the opportunity to enjoy family life. Our dynamic staff group have developed their knowledge and implemented a Neurosequentially Informed Recovery programme that gives a structured approach to the placement and the team around the child placed. As a constantly learning organization we take account of new learning in the field of Neuroscience in an ongoing manner, updating our own delivery accordingly.
NEWFOCAS can therefore provide children and young people who have suffered early childhood trauma and are vulnerable or frequently deemed 'unfosterable', a safe, secure, stable, and therapeutic family environment, that offers a recovery programme and clear and measurable process to help the children develop their potential and come to terms with the effects of that trauma. We largely base our work on the research and evidential work of Bruce Perry, Daniel Hughes, Kate Cairns and Margot Sutherland, who are eminent in the field of Neuroscience.
We are, and aim to continue being, small enough to care for all our foster placements, our expert carers, and our dedicated trauma informed staff team members, but large enough to excel in everything we do. As we are committed to providing the highest quality of Trauma Informed service at all times, we do not operate to make huge profits and all our income is devoted to our therapeutic foster placements and the investment in knowledge as a learning organisation.
NEWFOCAS Social Worker staff are reflective practitioners who have the ability to understand the effects of Trauma on Children and Secondary Trauma on Carers and staff, which enables NEWFOCAS to deliver a stable and dynamic service. Our external mentoring comes from CREPT, Chester Universitie’s Centre for Research and Education in Psychological Trauma.
